Fair Takes Top Honors
The North Carolina Association of Agricultural Fairs (NCAOAF) honored the fair with the 2013 media award for its extended efforts through advertising, social media, and traditional media outlets. The fairs compete against other fair of similar size. This year, in the large fair category, it was Robeson County that walked away with the award.
"It's a great honor for us," said Allen Faircloth, President of the Robeson Regional Agricultural Fair. "We have several fair board members who work during the year to prepare our advertising, make sure sponsors are recognized, and see to it that everyone knows about our fair." Faircloth said the media award is a true team award for the volunteers who make up the fair board.
To be selected a scrapbook style notebook showing examples of different types of media is submitted to the NCAOAF. This year the fair included newspaper clippings, examples of promotional items, sponsor signs, and both print and broadcast advertisements. "One of the growing areas in this category is social media," Faircloth added. "We have not only a web site that we are very proud of, but also an active voice through Facebook, Twitter, Shutterfly, and new this year Pinterest. It's amazing the comments and questions we field through our social media and it has really allowed us to connect in new ways with our fair goers."
